Visa requirements for Taiwanese citizens are requirements that must be met when traveling abroad.
These conditions determine whether Taiwanese passport holders are required to apply for a visa when traveling to a selected foreign country. Now, Taiwanese citizens can easily visit more than a hundred countries without a visa or simply apply for a visa at the border.
Other countries require Taiwanese passport holders to present a valid embassy visa or e-visa upon arrival. This gives the Taiwanese passport quite a bit of power when it comes to international travel, ranking 32nd for overall freedom of travel in the world.
In general, Taiwanese citizens can stay abroad for quite long periods of time.
The length of stay allowed varies from 14 to even 180 days. As briefly mentioned, Taiwanese citizens are eligible for embassy visas, visas on arrival, e-visas, and visa-free entry. The main difference between the four types of travel permits is how they are obtained.
Embassy visa is a regular travel permit that can be obtained at the embassy, VoA is required after arrival at any border crossing, e-visa can be easily obtained online and Visa-free entry does not require travelers to have a visa upon arrival.
VoA, eVisa and visa-free entry generally allow Taiwanese citizens to travel for leisure, entertainment, business or transit-related reasons.
These visas are issued for short-term trips of one, two, three or six months. On the other hand, embassy visas are used for both short-term and long-term travel, even those that involve working, studying or living abroad for longer periods of time.

Electronic visa

Fortunately, many countries allow Taiwanese citizens to use the Electronic Travel Authorization System to travel abroad.

An approved eVisa allows its holder to stay abroad for 14 days, 30 days, three months, six months and various periods of time.
The length of stay allowed varies and depends on the chosen destination. Since the eVisa serves as a replacement for a regular visa, it functions exactly like this document.
The only difference is that it is sent directly to your inbox without having to visit the embassy at any time during the application process.
Holding an eVisa allows you to participate in leisure, work or transit-related activities.

Visa on Arrival
Another visa system is VoAs.
Visa on arrival, as the name suggests, can be issued after arrival in a selected foreign country.
Travelers must go to the border checkpoint and apply for a last-minute travel permit.

Nearly 40 countries now offer a visa-on-arrival option for Taiwanese citizens. So, if you plan to visit any of the destinations listed above, you can get your visa after arriving at any border checkpoint. To get a visa on arrival, you just need to go to the border checkpoint and ask the customs officer for the VoA application form.
Then, carefully fill out the form providing your personal and trip-related information. Attach the required supporting documents (if applicable) and submit your application. Finally, pay the fee and wait for approval.

Many countries that offer VoA also have an eVisa option available to all Taiwanese passport holders. Before booking your flight, be sure to check to see if the destination you’re traveling to offers an eVisa.
Because e-visas are much easier to obtain and eliminate the need to queue at the airport as well as the stress of dealing with visas at the last minute. If an eVisa is not available, be sure to check the visa-on-arrival requirements that must be completed before your scheduled departure date.
A common misconception is that just because this is a visa that can be issued upon arrival, you do not need to verify the reason for your intended trip in any way. However, some countries require foreign visitors to provide certain documents proving their visit.

Embassy visa
An embassy visa is a regular travel permit that can only be obtained by visiting an official agency representing the country you want to visit. This type of visa usually comes in the form of a stamp on the applicant's passport. In addition, it can be issued for both short-term and long-term stays, even those related to work abroad. This makes the application process a bit more complicated.

Taiwanese citizens still need a visa issued by an embassy to visit more than 60 different countries. If you want to visit any of the destinations listed above, you will first need to apply for a visa at the embassy. Unfortunately, visa requirements at the embassy are much more complicated than online visa requirements. Depending on the country chosen and the purpose of your visit, the requirements will vary. However, you will mostly need a completed application form, a valid passport, a photo of the applicant’s face, and supporting documents to validate the reason for the planned trip.
Some countries require applicants to provide officially issued documents, which may take a little longer to obtain. Carefully check the required documents before submitting your application, preferably a few weeks before the expected departure date. Once you have prepared the necessary documents, simply fill out the form and send the complete documents to the embassy of the chosen destination.
Then cover the costs and wait up to a few weeks for your application to be approved.
Visa-free countries
More than 80 countries and territories allow Taiwanese citizens to travel without a visa.
Because there are many destinations that give Taiwanese the freedom to travel without a visa, the Taiwanese passport has relatively strong international power.
