Thailand e-Visa: Basic information

The Thailand tourist e-visa is a single-entry e-visa that allows the holder to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days and is valid for 3 or 6 months from the date of issue. The Thailand e-visa can be used for all travel-related purposes, including family visits as well as for medical treatment or participation in meetings, congresses, exhibitions or activities.
Thailand officially launched a new stickerless e-visa system on September 26, 2021 to simplify the visa application process before arriving in Thailand, offering nine different types of e-visas for Foreign tourists. The new eVisa system no longer requires visitors to submit visa support documents to the Thai embassy or consulate; We are therefore moving to a completely online application system. Citizens from 37 eligible countries can apply for a Thailand e-Visa online 15 working days before their intended departure to Thailand to receive approved documents via email in PDF format.
The Thai government has introduced an extremely comprehensive e-visa system, offering nine different types of online visas for eligible travelers to choose from.
The main type of Thai e-visa is the tourist visa, which serves as a single entry permit allowing the visa holder to stay in Thailand for up to two months.
An approved Thailand tourist eVisa can be used for the following purposes:
  • leisure-related activities, e.g., a short vacation stay
  • making family visits
  • undergoing medical treatment at one of the registered hospitals in Thailand
  • MICE participation (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, & Exhibitions) supported by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB)

Thailand also offers 8 additional types of electronic Visa:

  • a business & investor visa (non-immigrant B/IB)
  • a study visa (non-immigrant ED)
  • a family visit visa (non-immigrant O)
  • a transit visa
  • a long-stay visa (issued for one or five years with the possibility of further extension)
  • a SMART visa (for investors and entrepreneurs who wish to invest in one of the 10 S-Curve industries in Thailand, e.g., the agriculture and biotechnology sector.
  • a government/diplomatic mission visa (non-immigrant F)
  • a diplomatic/official visa

Specific features (such as validity period or maximum stay), as well as required documents, vary between different types of Thailand e-Visas, with some types requiring Request to provide officially issued documents.

Eligible travelers who wish to visit Thailand using the e-visa system must first select the specific Thai e-visa type appropriate to the purpose of their visit to Thailand.
All Thailand e-Visa applications (regardless of the type chosen) must be submitted at least 15 working days before the intended trip to Thailand to allow sufficient time for visa processing. To apply online, have your valid passport and details of your intended travel to Thailand ready and follow these steps:
  1. Begin by clicking on the “Login” button, which can be found in the menu on the right side of the screen.
  2. If you haven’t registered yet, please register yourself first.
  3. After registering, proceed to log in to the panel.
  4. Once you are logged in, navigate to the menu on the left side of the panel.
  5. Select the “Visa Application Form” option from the menu.
  6. Fill out this form with the required information.
  7. Finally, submit the completed form.
ADVICE: Providing accurate details will help avoid any delays or approval issues.
Thailand e-Visa is processed within 15 working days. This is why it is important that you submit your application at least 15 working days before your intended departure to Thailand in order to receive your documents approved on time.
An approved Thailand tourist visa is valid for three or six months from the date of issue.

The Transit Thai eVisa serves as a one-time, 30-day travel permit, valid for three months from the date of issue, and can be used for transit-related transit, sports or tourism activities. If you need a transit visa for a stopover in Thailand, apply for a Thai electronic transit visa online 15 working days before departure.
Travelers from the 37 countries eligible for the Thailand eVisa must have certain documents upon arrival in Thailand, including:
  1. A printout of their approved Thailand eVisa
  2. Their valid passport will not expire for at least six months

Required documents for e-Visa

Make sure you have the following documents to apply for a Thailand e-visa:

  1. Original passport. You need a copy of the biological information page of your passport or travel document
  2. Photograph. It must be recent, taken within the last six months. It will reflect your current appearance.
  3. Confirm legal residence in your country.
  4. Financial sources. You must provide evidence that you have enough money to support yourself. This can be in the form of bank statements, proof of income and sponsorship letter.
  5. Proof of accommodation. You must provide detailed information about where you will stay in Thailand. This can be in the form of accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand.
  6. Confirm travel reservations. You must provide proof of a round-trip airline ticket.
  7. Declaration document.
