Rwanda e-Visa: Basic information

The Rwanda e-visa is an electronic visa launched by the Government of Rwanda on January 1, 2018 to allow foreign nationals to enter Rwanda through Kigali International Airport and all entry points along the border .Rwanda has introduced an e-visa system to help tourists obtain visas much faster and easier through a simple online process.
 
There are four types of Rwanda e-Visas for tourism and business purposes.
 
The Rwanda e-visa comes in the form of single-entry and multiple-entry visas, allowing a stay of 30 or 90 days in the country depending on the type of visa.
The validity period of e-visa for Rwanda also varies from 30 to 90 days.
Tourists, business people and those visiting friends and relatives can now use electronic visas to travel to Rwanda.
With eVisa, there is no need to go to the Rwandan embassy and worry about excessive paperwork or long waiting lines.

As mentioned earlier, online Rwanda visas can be divided into four different categories.
Travelers around the world can choose between:
 
  • Single-entry eVisa: allows a single-entry into Rwanda for a maximum of 30 days.
  • Conference eVisa: serves as a single-entry permit for a stay of 30 days; however, it is issued for all business purposes, including attending business meetings, conferences, or negotiating a contract.
  • Multiple-entry eVisa: enables travelers to enter Rwanda numerous times. The multiple-entry permit stays valid for 90 days.
  • East African Online Visa: designated for all travelers that want to visit KenyaRwandaand Uganda with just one entry permit. It allows multiple entries to the three countries. Traveling between and within them can be done for tourism purposes only (including family visits)—it has a validity period of 90 days.

Follow these steps to apply for a Rwanda visa online:
  1. Begin by clicking on the “Login” button, which can be found in the menu on the right side of the screen.
  2. If you haven’t registered yet, please register yourself first. After registering, proceed to log in to the panel.
  3. Once you are logged in, navigate to the menu on the left side of the panel.
  4. Select the “Visa Application Form” option from the menu.
  5. Fill out this form with the required information.
  6. Finally, submit the completed form.

The e-visa to Rwanda will be sent to your email address in PDF format, print it out and take it with you to the airport or on the road

In all available online visas, the validity period starts from the intended date of entry into Rwanda.
Each applicant clearly states the expected date of admission in the application.
 
The Single Entry Permit and Conference eVisa remain valid for 30 days from the designated entry date.
East Africa multiple entry permits and online visas remain valid for 90 days (three months), from the first entry into Rwanda.
Transit through Rwanda does not require additional documentation if the traveler does not leave the designated transit area.
Let’s say you need to leave the transit area at the airport; You will need to obtain appropriate entry permits upon arrival.

The two documents will be checked by customs officers upon entry into Rwanda.
Each traveler must have a printed eVisa and a passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry.

  4. Tourist visa (official visit) Free of charge
  5. Family visit visa (V5- Conference, meeting) 50 USD. (Free for citizens of countries with which Rwanda has visa-free agreements, including the African Union, the Commonwealth and the Francophone Communities).
  6. Family visit visa (V7 – Medical treatment) 30 USD
  7. Tourist visa (V8 – Tour group) 150 USD
  8. Tourist visa (V11 – East Africa Tourist Visa) 100 USD

Visa fees are non-refundable.

Required documents for e-Visa

Make sure you have the following documents when you want to apply for Rwanda e-Visa online:
 
  1. Tour guide.It must be valid for at least 6 months.
  2. A picture.You must include a photo of yourself.
  3. Copy of passport identification page.
  4. Cover letter.
Note:
Photos must be smaller than 200 KB and in acceptable jpeg and jpg formats.
Other attachments must be less than 500 KB and in PDF format only.

Important Information

  • To ensure having a successfully approved application, please apply at least 3 days (72 hours) in advance
  • Each traveler needs to file a separate online visa application
  • Print out the PDF version of the approved eVisa to Rwanda and take it with you for customs officials control
  • Rwanda eVisa can be extended at the closest land or air border point or any Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration. Prolong your online visa before its expiry date
  • The electronic visa to Rwanda does not serve as a working permit
  • The validity period starts on the date of entry to Rwanda; not on the date of issue
