Myanmar Entry and Travel Requirements
Entry requirements into Myanmar define the conditions that a person must meet to enter Myanmar without any problems. These requirements outline the documents that travelers must have before departure.
One of the most important documents that it is impossible to travel to Myanmar without is a valid passport. It must be valid for at least 6 months from the expected date of arrival in the country. If it expires earlier, travelers must renew it before departing on their trip. Another equally important document that most foreign tourists need when visiting Myanmar is a visa. Currently, no foreign national can enter Myanmar without a visa.
However, thanks to the Myanmar government applying the electronic visa system, citizens of more than 100 different countries around the world can apply for a Myanmar visa without leaving home. The Myanmar e-visa is issued for tourism or business purposes and allows you to stay in the country for 28 and 70 days respectively. Both eVisa types are valid for 3 months from the date of approval. Additionally, all those who are unable to apply for a Myanmar e-Visa or who plan to visit Myanmar for purposes other than business or tourism will have to go to the nearest Myanmar embassy and apply for a visa in person.
Myanmar's borders have remained closed for nearly two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. The country's authorities will again welcome fully vaccinated tourists in May 2022, and will resume issuing electronic tourist visas. A month earlier, in April 2022, business e-visas were restored and travelers could take commercial flights as before the pandemic.
Currently, Myanmar authorities still maintain some Covid-19 restrictions allowing entry only to fully vaccinated travelers, with some exceptions for relief flights. Even fully vaccinated arrivals are required to present a negative test result and get tested after arrival.
Read on for full details of current entry requirements into Myanmar. However, please note that travel restrictions are constantly changing and it is your responsibility to stay aware of the latest changes that may have been introduced.
