Cyprus passport ranks 34th in the world as of October 2023 according to VisaGuide Passport Index. This means Cypriot citizens can travel visa-free to 144 countries around the world. However, to enter other countries, Cypriot passport holders must apply for a visa in advance.

How to acquire citizenship and apply for a Cypriot passport

A foreigner can get Cypriot citizenship in three legal ways:

  • Naturalization based on years of residence;
  • Marriage to Cypriot;
  • Cypriot origins.

Previously, you could also apply for a Cyprus Golden Visa by investment. It has been removed as of November 1, 2020.

Foreigners who have resided legally in Cyprus for a total of 7 years can apply for Cypriot citizenship through naturalization. They must have resided continuously in Cyprus for the past year before applying.
