Malawi e-Visa: Basic information
The Malawi e-visa is an electronic visa that allows the visa holder to travel to Malawi for tourism, business, transit and even medical purposes.
The country's government introduced an e-visa system in 2019 to facilitate visa processing by switching to online applications.
There are four different types of Malawi e-visas to distinguish. Three of them are used for tourism, business and medical purposes and come in the form of single or multiple entry visas, while the fourth serves as an electronic transit visa.
The maximum stay with a Malawi e-Visa varies depending on the type chosen and can be 7 or 30 days and 6 or 12 months. The validity period of the online Malawi visa is 90 days (three months), regardless of the type chosen.

The online Malawi visa will then be sent directly to the applicant's email inbox in PDF format within 5 working days without the need to visit the embassy or consulate.
Applicants can choose one of four online Malawi visa types available on our website. Each eligible traveler can choose between:

Follow these simple-step e-Visa application process:
- Begin by clicking on the “Login” button, which can be found in the menu on the right side of the screen.
- If you haven’t registered yet, please register yourself first.
- After registering, proceed to log in to the panel.
- Once you are logged in, navigate to the menu on the left side of the panel.
- Select the “Visa Application Form” option from the menu.
- Fill out this form with the required information.
- Finally, submit the completed form.
Every applicant will receive a confirmation number once their payment has cleared. You can use it to check the status of your electronic Malawi visa while it’s processing.
Whichever type of Malawi visa online you choose, your entry permit will be valid for 90 days (three months) from the date of issue. The first entry into Malawi must take place within its validity period.
Please note! Each traveler must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of travel. Check that your passport is of suitable validity before applying.

The electronic transit visa allows a 7-day stay in Malawi for transit purposes only. Plus, it’s valid for three months from approval, giving you plenty of time to complete your trip!
Once you have received your approved Malawi e-Visa, print it and take it with you on your trip. Customs officers will check that each traveler has a valid passport and pre-printed e-visa upon arrival.

If your citizenship is not listed, you will need to apply for a regular visa at the embassy to visit Malawi.
Required documents for e-Visa
Make sure you bring the following documents with you when you decide to apply for the Malawi e-Visa:
- Photograph. It must be recent (preferably taken within the last six months). The face must be clearly visible and the background must be white (no shadows).
- Copy of passport. You must include a copy of the bio data page.
- Invitation letter from host to Malawi. The letter must be signed by the homeowner.
- Cover letter from agent or booking accommodation (letter must be signed by agent).
If the applicant is a minor, the following documents are also required:
- Birth certificate
- Copy of passport (biographical data page) of guardian or parent,
- Consent form. Find it here.
- Proof of legal guardianship. If you are not the biological parent, you must include documents proving guardianship.
Note:
The travel document must be valid for 180 days and have at least 2 blank pages.

You can pay the fee at the time of application. Visa fees are non-refundable.
The only two things travelers need to complete the online visa application form are a valid passport and a photo of the applicant’s face which can be taken with a phone or PC camera. Make sure you have citizenship of one of the eligible countries and apply online.
To successfully apply for an e-visa, regardless of the type of e-visa you are applying for (single entry visa, one of the multiple entry visas or transit entry permit), your passport must be Valid for at least 6 days. months from the intended date of entry into Malawi.
